About This Guide

Flying out of Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)? Parking is one of the first things to sort out. This guide covers the parking options listed on the airport's official website, flychicago.com, what to check before you book, and how to plan your arrival so you're not rushing to your gate.

ParkNJet is an independent guide and does not operate any parking at O'Hare. O'Hare is run by the Chicago Department of Aviation. Details change, so always confirm current information on the official O'Hare parking page or the provider's website before you go.

Good to know: flychicago.com says it doesn't recommend the Main Garage for extended overnight stays, because its daily rates are higher than the Economy Lots. It also shows real-time parking status on its parking pages.

Your Parking Options at O'Hare

Here's what the airport's official website lists, plus off-airport parking run by private companies nearby.

Main Garage: Hourly

The Main Garage is next to O'Hare's domestic terminals. According to flychicago.com:

  • Hourly parking is on Level 1 and is meant for short stays (less than three hours).
  • Level 1 has 12 Level II EV charging stations.
  • The garage has a 6-foot-6-inch clearance.

Main Garage Daily and Lots B & C

Daily parking is on Levels 2–6 of the Main Garage and in the outdoor Lots B and C next to it, according to flychicago.com.

Lots B and C have higher clearances (9 feet and 8 feet 5 inches) than the garage, so the airport suggests them for taller vehicles that need to park near the terminals.

Off-airport lots

Private companies run parking lots near O'Hare, and many offer shuttles to the terminals and online reservations. They aren't run by the airport.

Each company sets its own prices, shuttle hours, and cancellation rules, so compare a few. See the booking sites we list on our home page.

Parking for 30+ days

flychicago.com says to call the Parking Garage Office at (773) 686-7530 in advance if you'll park for more than 30 days. Vehicles left longer without arrangements are considered abandoned and may be towed at the owner's expense.

Tips for Parking at O'Hare

Know your terminal

The Main Garage is next to the domestic terminals, while international Terminal 5 has its own garage. Check your airline's terminal before you leave so you head to the right parking area.

Avoid Hourly for overnight stays

Based on flychicago.com's listed rates, a full day on Level 1 Hourly costs $79, compared with $43 on the Daily levels and $16 at Lots G and H.

Allow time for the shuttle and ATS

From Lots G and H, you ride a shuttle bus to the Multi-Modal Facility and then the ATS train to your terminal. Add that time on top of check-in and security.

Check how you'll pay

flychicago.com says you pay the cashier when you exit, by cash or major card. Its general parking page marks Economy Lot H as “credit card only,” while its Economy page lists cash and cards, so bring a card to be safe.

Tall vehicle? Check clearances

The Main Garage has a 6-foot-6-inch clearance. flychicago.com lists higher clearances at Lot B (9 feet), Lot C (8 feet 5 inches), the Terminal 5 Garage (8 feet 6 inches), and Lot F (8 feet 4 inches).

Write down your level

flychicago.com reminds drivers to note which level they parked on. A quick photo of the level and row sign helps when you're tired after a flight.

Before You Book: What to Check

  • Cancellation and change policy (free cancellation window, if any)
  • What happens if you return later than planned (overstay charges)
  • Shuttle hours, frequency, and pickup instructions for your return
  • Covered vs. uncovered parking
  • Height limits, which differ by O'Hare lot, or oversized-vehicle rules
  • Any extra fees or taxes shown at checkout (O'Hare's reservation fee is added to the parking cost)
  • Whether you need a printed or mobile confirmation (O'Hare reservations use a QR code)
  • Accepted payment methods at the exit

O'Hare Parking FAQ

Is off-airport parking near O'Hare cheaper than parking at the airport?

It can be, but not always. O'Hare's Economy Lots G and H are lower-cost official options, and off-airport lots set their own prices and fees. Compare the total cost for your dates before deciding.

Can I reserve parking at O'Hare ahead of time?

Can I cancel an official O'Hare parking reservation?

According to the official booking FAQ, refunds are given only for cancellations made at least 2 hours before your reservation's start time. There are no refunds for partly used reservations. For off-airport lots, the provider's own policy applies.

What if I return later than my reservation?
